Predictions on UFC 126

This fight card should be the guide-line for all UFC fight cards. One title shot fight with whom-ever, in this case the fan anti-favorite Anderson Silva, one celebrity super fan fight, Griffin vs Franklin, and even one bonus rising star fight with Jon Jones. I would fly to Vegas to watch this card even with Anderson as the main event.

Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort

I am definitely cheering for Vitor on this one. Maybe Anderson just needs a break from being the champ for a while.

Forrest Griffin vs Rich Franklin

Great fight. Cheering for both guys to win. Just glad the UFC put together a great celebrity champ fight.

Jon Jones vs Ryan Bader

Another great fight. Still surprised the UFC would put two rising hyped-up stars in a fight. I am cheering a bit more for Jon Jones, he has more fan excitement.

Overall UFC 126 looks good.

Frankie Edgar ties Gray Maynard

Great fight, but a weird judging finish. Both guys will regret not quite doing enough to get the decision. Does this make for an automatic rematch… or does Frankie have to fight another guy first? Strange for everyone involved.

Chris Leben loses to Brian Stann

It was a great fight to watch. I’m glad Brian won, but still a bit sad Chris Leben is the dedicated UFC gatekeeper. Chris Leben should somehow get one more title run.

Brandon Vera loses Thiago Silva

Brandon Vera looked like he was in great shape, but got schooled. An odd fight to watch. Still entertaining, but it would have been way better if Brandon could eascape from the ground at least a couple times… he was trapped.

Overall UFC 125 was a good show, even with the original main event fight dropped. Crazy to have a title fight end in a draw.

Predictions on UFC 125

Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard

Frankie Edgar is still a bit new as the title champ so I am hoping he wins this one also. He seems like a good guy. I am not cheering against Gray Maynard specifically, just that I would cheer for Edgar vs anyone in this one.

Chris Leben vs Brian Stann

I can’t tell if Leben is going for another comeback run or if the UFC is using him as the gatekeeper to test Brian Stann. Either way it should be a great fight to watch.

Brandon Vera vs Thiago Silva

If Brandon Vera is in great shape then this should be a great fight. It’s like you can never tell if Brandon will be on fire or sluggish for 15 minutes.

Still sad that, due to an injury, the original main fight of Shane Carwin vs Roy Nelson was dropped. It should still happen sometime next year though.

Georges St-Pierre beats Josh Koscheck

GSP looked great. I hope he has two fights lined up for next year, but there aren’t really two top opponents ready. Somehow Josh still did ok in the fight, he stuffed takedowns, got up fast when taken down, … ok, but still not the crazy GSP level of fighting.

Thiago Alves beats John Howard

Thiago Alves was great. I’m not sure I am ready to see him fight GSP right away though…

Mark Bocek beats Dustin Hazelett

I wanted a grat submission fighter to win, but I just picked the wrong guy. Mark Bocek was awesome. I’ll be cheering for him in the next fight.
Overall UFC 124 turned out great. The usual minor thing of hoping GSP would have finished the fight early somehow. Josh great at surviving so I don’t know how GSP could have finished it.

Predictions on UFC 124

Georges St-Pierre vs Josh Koscheck

Maybe next year the UFC will be nice enough to have GSP in two fights… he will be an old man by the time he has five more fights. My guess is GSP pummels Josh just like he did last time.

Thiago Alves vs John Howard

Thiago Alves could be the champ at any time… only if GSP wasn’t in the same weight class. It might not be possible, but if he could drop down a weight level he would win for sure.

Mark Bocek vs Dustin Hazelett

For a while I have been hoping for some great pure submission fighters to move up fast… There is still a good chance Dustin Hazelett is one of them. Anymore punches (ko) losses for him would be sad.

Overall UFC 124 looks pretty good.

Results on UFC 123

Quinton Jackson vs Lyoto Machida

Yes Lyoto truly won the third round, but it is one of the few times I agree with the close judging call that Quinton for sure won the first two rounds. And Lyoto is to blame for that by not quite attacking enough to give those rounds away. Boring counter striker styles that wait till the last round to do anything should get docked a couple points…

Matt Hughes vs B.J. Penn

Great fight. Maybe the knockout just happened a bit too fast? Great co-headliner fight finish.

Overall UFC 123 was a great fight card with a lot of decent undercard fights. (Other then the horrible painful third round of the Falco fight.)
