Overall the fight card was ok, but only the main event was truly great.
Light Heavyweight Championship bout:
Maurício Rua vs.
Jon Jones
This fight was definitely a step above any other fight in the show. Rua had a champ’s determination, but Jon Jones did all his crazy moves to put on a great win. Not something you usually see in a main event. I am already looking forward to Jon Jones’s first title defense.

Overall UFC 128 looks ok, but the card is carried by the great main event fight.
Light Heavyweight Championship bout:
Maurício Rua vs.
Jon Jones
Jon Jones might be too young, or too in-experienced for this fight, but I am definitely still cheering for him. It would be great entertainment to have defending the belt in five round matches for the next few years.
The other fights look decent, but no celebrity fan favorites to really cheer for. Hopefully Urijah Faber can live up to the hype and I’ll cheer for him next time.

B.J. Penn vs. Jon Fitch
A majority draw with the slight edge going to Jon Fitch is a strange finish. I haven’t seen that before in a UFC headliner before. The fight was ok, but not great. Fitch deserved the win, but BJ almost could have finished early somehow in the first two rounds.
Michael Bisping vs. Jorge Rivera
Another kind of strange fight with Bisping doing the full out strange illegal knee attack. Most times you can see how it’s a mistake or the victim is gaming the system by putting a hand down at the last second, but this one looked like Bisping just nailed him.
Overall this UFC 127 has to go down as average. Maybe slightly below average. Hopefully back in Vegas the next one will be better.

B.J. Penn vs. Jon Fitch
For the most part I am cheering for Jon Fitch to win the fight, improve some more, and really challenge GSP for another title shot. But a small part is cheering for BJ Penn to knock him out in the first minute. That would be a great knock-out streak for BJ.
Michael Bisping vs. Jorge Rivera
I’m cheering for Bisping, but Jorge is right up there. This fight has great entertainment potential.
The rest of the card looks ok, but I guess not many celebrity fighters could make the trip to Australia. UFC is still a Vegas event for the biggest cards.

how today’s internet is killing or culture
Author: Andrew Keen
Rating: 3/5
Inside Jacket Snippet: ‘…our professional newspapers, magazines, music, and movies – are being overtaken by an avalanche or amateur, user-generated free content. …’
Comments: The book contains a number of good points about amateur online contributors driving down the quality of content online… (probably this posting is a good example), but the book feels too preachy or a bit condescending throughout. Too much time is devoted to feel sad about stores closing… when most people would never have had a chance to go their anyway. Overall ‘Cult of the Amateur’ is ok to read, but reminds me of a fired up radio personality like Dan Carlin’s hardcore history podcast show.

Overall UFC 126 was a good show. I’m surprised the Griffin Franklin fight was a bit of a let-down and the Anderson Silva show was actually good.
Anderson Silva beats Vitor Belfort
I am stunned by the fast first round finish. It started with the usual two minites of boring circling doing nothing in the ring… and bam it was over. I’m still not a fan of Anderson Silva, but this is at least a good start.
Forrest Griffin beats Rich Franklin
Almost a good fight. Both guys were overly tentative and ring rusty. Maybe next time they will put on a better show.
Jon Jones beats Ryan Bader
A great fight. I will definitely cheer for Jon Jones in his title shot.
