Comments:

If I read the story when it first came out in Galaxy magazine back in 1975 I would give it a full 5/5, but even reading it for the first time in 2009, it still deserves a 4/5… and again a full score if only it was a bit more expanded, with more emphasis on villain encounters. The final chapters waste too much space trying to explain the family politics. Really he could have said… if all other family members die, then you get the throne. Basic royal family politics that probably apply everywhere.

I really liked the section where he returns to the Earth shadow to semi-explain his situation to his regular human buddy. I could watch this idea in movies over and over again to allow fantastic worlds, but still have an earth anchor comparison to our present day.
