Inferno by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle
Rating: 3.5/5
Back Cover Snippet: ‘Carpentier treks through the Nine Layers of Hell, led by Benito Mussolini….’
My Comments: An entertaining book to read, but not over-the-top awesome or anything. I was never quite sure if the good parts of the book were the author’s own creation or from the original Dante’s Inferno book I read years ago… Plus the original book had issues, like how the feel of Hell portrayed in the book is dated… similar to old movies from the 1920′s feel dated… maybe sections of hell would have shared computer stations with really slow internet connections, cell phones with bad reception, and annoying commercials with product placements everywhere… Why is Hell a primitive medieval place?
A more current all encompassing Hell archetype adventure can be found in the Neil Gaiman Sandman Series. I still look forward to reading the upcoming Niven book, Escape From Hell, since Inferno was fast and mostly fun.
