Half Marathon After
The run went well. Official chip time of 1:54:50 (Bib 1703, Donna finished at 1:57:03.. so I might not have noticed the chip switch). As an added bonus I had George Laraque pass me right at the last turn before the straight-away to the finish. He did pretty good for such a big dude. 1:53:26
My race game plan worked perfectly;
1. Run with the 1:45 pace group for as long as possible. This is a pretty comfortable pace for me to run. This kept me ahead of the 2hr running pack (the largest group in any half marathon).
2. Soreness and zone-ing out… kicked in about 15km so I let the pace team pull away. With only ~5k to go I was pretty confident I would be done before the 2hr pace team could catch up to me. Plus the lead full marathon runners were beginning to pass me. A nice mental boost to witness more extreme runners. Skinny as they are.
Overall great run. Next time I’ll likely try to push up to the 1:45 marker. To go for the 1:30 level feels like I would have to do another lifestyle adjustment. Way more training runs. Don’t think I am quite ready for that yet. Anything under 2hrs is great.
