Hakuin on Kensho – by Albert Low
Full Title: Hakuin on Kensho – The Four Ways of Knowing – Edited with commentary by Albert Low
Rating: 5/5
Summary: ‘Kensho is the experience of waking up to one’s own true nature-of understanding oneself to be not different rom the Buddha-nature that pervades all existence.’
Style: Well done with an easy reading flow.
Comments: Personally I needed the expanded commentary by Albert Low to make more sense of the original Hakuin on Kensho text. Even with the excellent commentary I bet a few points are lost on me for now. I could have used some commentary on the commentary, but overall the book is definitely worth reading to get what you can from it.
The subtle/main difference between differentiation and discrimination was new concept for me. So I’ll still have to look further into that before poorly explaining it here. ’… concepts and words cannot capture the aliveness and richness of life. They dull the bright tapestry of existence to one monotonous grey.’
The Iron Cow of Zen by Albert Low is another Zen book worth reading, I will search for others to share.
